Berkhamsted and District Chamber of Commerce was re-established in May 1993. For some time, business people
in the town, and the surrounding area, had felt that their views were not properly represented, especially to
Dacorum Borough Council. Also, decisions and plans affecting the commercial life of Berkhamsted were being
made away from the town and without sufficient in-depth consultation.
Aims of the chamber include:
-
improve trading and commercial interests
-
represent members to statutory bodies
-
collect and circulate information
-
provide support for businesses
The Chamber is active in all of the following areas.
-
Retail - all
matters affecting shops.
-
Planning and Traffic -
review of town centre enhancement schemes; environmental issues; car parking; comment on draft town plan;
input of all planning applications which might affect businesses.
-
Business Development
- liaison with statutory bodies and other agencies; advice on grants and assistance.
-
Crime Prevention -
countering theft and vandalism.
-
Business Networking
- occasional gatherings of members to promote business
activities.
-
A regular Members'
newsletter
If your business is in Berkhamsted, the Chamber of Commerce is for you. Members already
represent a broad cross section of business - retail, service, professional and industrial. The voice
of those who create wealth in the district must be heard. This is an ideal forum to exchange views an
make sure everybody benefits from a thriving and vibrant business community.
